Garvey Phelps Residence

During the winter of 2009-2010, we asked Michael Cook, AIA, of Cook Architecture, to solve a range of heating, noise and lighting problems in our single-level, Charles Goodman-designed home in Hollin Hills. With unfailing energy and creativity, Michael applied his extraordinary talents as an architect and project manager to our home improvement project.  He demonstrated great skill in thinking outside the box, on both a practical and aesthetic level.  We greatly appreciated the fact that he encouraged us to think broadly and to tackle some additional projects that he thought might enhance the overall attractiveness and livability of our house.  It was amazing how much thought and effort he put into this project, almost as if he owned the house and planned to live there himself. At the completion of this project, our house is now everything that we had hoped it might be someday – quiet, energy-efficient, comfortable, and bright.  Michael’s vision and energy, combined with the dependability and resourcefulness of his colleague, Raul Vazquez of Federal Contracting LLC, transformed our home (and our lives) in ways that we had only dreamed about for many years. Not only are we happy with the results, but we also no longer have fantasies about spending our winters in Florida!

FIRST EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH

First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ellicott City has retained the services of Cook Architecture and specifically Lawrence Cook on two major construction projects within the recent past.  We are pleased to state that in both instances the church has been completely satisfied with the services provided during preliminary design, final design, obtaining the required permits and construction.  The first project consisted of building a new worship space seating 500 people which was constructed in 1995.  In 2005 Cook Architecture was again retained to remodel the Fellowship Center.  We found Mr. Cook and his firm to be sensitive to the requirements and desires of the congregation and building committee .It should be noted that the design and construction has won several awards.

GOOD SHEPHERD EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Larry, Michael and their able team of associates have worked over two years on a project to expand and renovate our church.  They were able to come up with a beautiful and imaginative solution to our design problem: how to crate a new sanctuary and integrate it with the existing (rather pedestrian) structure. During the design phase, they listened to our concerns and addressed them so that the design met all our needs and reflected our parish’s personality.  At several key decision-making points, they helped the building Committee by making very articulate presentations to our governing body and to the congregation. Larry and all members of Cook Architecture have been very easy and pleasant to work with, accommodating themselves to our meeting schedules, always responding speedily to our requests, and always willing to explain technical issues.  We have been able to achieve more than we dreamed and virtually the entire congregation is delighted with our wonderful new and renovated church building.
